It is IBEW's mission to
organize all workers in the electrical industry into local unions, so as to provide a higher standard of living and greater
job security. Our local union 841 has over 625 members. We are mostly based out of Birmingham but also include three sub locals
in Tuscaloosa , Winfield and Calera.  |

Why Union?
This chart shows many of the reasons to work in a union job. Workers should consider joining a union of their profession because, unions provide a higher standard of living and quality of life for working families. We do this by negotiating a contract on their behalf with their employer. Some of the items negotiated are safe working condition, health insurance, wages and benifits. We also have a grievance procedure to resolve other issues that may arise. Unions are democratic, too. We have elections to vote in officers, this means the membership has a say in who is going to run their local unions. This is very important because the officers work for you. |
